2. The Office of International Linkages for Research and Development director Dr. Delia B. Senoro was a guest speaker at the Visual Workshop: Challenges and Solutions in Drinking Water Quality held on April 9,2021 via Webex. The event was lead organized by the National Cheng Kung University.

3. ADDRESSING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS by Partnership in Research, Innovation and Academic Programs
Mapúa University supports the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and contributes to creating solutions to various issues. It partners with international and local academic institutions and organizations to initiate efforts in research, innovation, and instruction. Through this concatenated event, collaborations are formed, and knowledge and experiences are shared, creating effective solutions to societal challenges. This event is open to all students, researchers, industry practitioners, FinTech professionals, and other interested participants.

2020 INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS

A. Financial Technology and digital innovation to modeRnise and develop cUrricula of VietnameSe and Philippines UniversiTies (TRUST)

Mapúa University is one of the partners of TRUST project (Financial Technology and digital innovation to modeRnise and develop cUrricula of VietnameSe and Philippine UniversiTies). This three-year project (2020-2022) is co-funded by the European Union Erasmus Plus Programme (EPP) Key Action 2 Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices under Capacity Building in Higher Education Joint Projects.

The TRUST project is composed of team members from: Universita degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi, Italy as the Project Coordinator; Consortium are University of Belgrade, Serbia; Glasgow Caledonian University London, London; Deus Technology, Italy; Fintech Philippines Association, Philippines; Mapua University, Manila, Philippines; University of Cebu, Cebu, Philippines; Saint Louis College, Inc., Baguio, Philippines; Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Vietnam; Hue College of Economics Hue University, Vietnam; and University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University, Vietnam. The TRUST project aims to improve the quality of the higher education in VN and PH in FINancial TECHnology and digital innovation-FINTECH to answer to the emergent workforce need of the future Financial Services industry. Specific objectives of the project are:

• designing and developing of a master on FINancial TECHnology and digital innovation (FINTECH) in VN & PH Universities;
• modernising of other masters of Business and Economics with specific contents on FINancial TECHnology in VN & PH Universities.

The 4° Industrial Revolution global transformation is also transforming the Financial Sector due to the technology invasion. The HE in the EU and in the world are trying to tackle this revolution too. Several educational programmes are born on FinTech, but there isn’t any feedback on their results or impact. TRUST project for the first time merges EU and South Asian HEIs and enterprises of the Financial Services Sector/FinTech startups to promote the HE modernisation, curriculum development and improvement of quality of HE in the Partner Countries, enhancing its relevance for the Financial Services labour market. The modernisation of the HE programmes on FINTECH in VN and PH will answer the partner countries’ needs of the HE in that field by filling the gap between the labour Financial Market emergent needs and the HE offers that have to answer these needs. To this aim, the collaboration with the financial services sector/FinTech startups is essential too. These objectives answer each HEI aim to improve the educational offer on the FinTech topic to be ready and competitive in the Financial labour Market of each partner country.

B. Some organized and co-organized events

1. In support of the research and innovation initiatives of Mapúa University, the Office of International Linkages for Research and Development (ILRAD), in cooperation with the Web of Science Group, a Clarivate Company, conducted a webinar on scientific paper preparation and publication techniques on July 15, 2020, via the WebEx platform. The webinar, which was titled “Publish and Flourish”, was delivered by Dr. Diu-Seng See, Web of Science Solutions Sales Executive. The event was participated by students, researchers, faculty, and staff of Mapúa. It was seen to boost the capacity of Mapúa researchers to publish studies in international journals




2. In partnership with Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Philippines, Mapúa University also organized workshops on “Sustainable Development Goals and Solutions” in Boac, Marinduque, and San Agustin, Romblon, on June 26 and July 16, 2020, respectively. These workshops were funded by German Cooperation (implemented by GIZ) through SDSN Philippines. Marinduque State College and Romblon Medical Society collaborated with Mapúa University to carry out the workshops. The local government officials of Marinduque and Romblon actively participated in these two events. The workshops aimed to help participants learn how to contribute solutions to attain sustainable development in the country.




3. On November 6, 2020, the Online International Conference on SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, organized by the Department of Environmental Engineering and National Cheng Kung University of Taiwan in cooperation with Office of ILRAD, Mapúa University, was held via Zoom. Dr. Delia B. Senoro, the ILRAD Director and one of the speakers in the event, shared her knowledge and expertise in water resources and water quality. This event was attended by students, researchers, faculty, and lecturers from various universities and institutions. The conference aimed to spark interest in the conduct of research in the area of water quality.

2019 INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS

a. BEEHIVE Project

Mapua University was involved in BEEHIVE project that was co-funded by European Union Erasmus Plus Program. The BEEHIVE project is composed of team members from: Varna University of Management, Varna, Bulgaria; Thessaly University, Greece; Reykjavik University, Iceland; Universita degli studi Guglielmo Marconi, Rome Italy; Innovation and Management Center, Galway, Ireland; Mapua University, Manila, Philippines; University of Cebu, Cebu, Philippines; Idea Space Foundation, Inc. Makati, Philippines; Saint Louis College, Inc., Baguio, Philippines; University of Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia; and Bunis University, Jakarta, Indonesia. The BEEHIVE project target outcome is building sustainable university-based entrepreneurial ecosystems in the higher educational institutions (HEIs) in Indonesia and Philippines. This project aims to develop students’ and graduates’ entrepreneurial skills and develop the ability and competency to create jobs. The BEEHIVE project supported the quest for a knowledge-based societies and improve the economy of Indonesia and the Philippines. One of the activities of the BEEHIVE Teams from Philippines and Indonesia was data gathering that led to the Philippines/Indonesia National Benchmarking report (PNBR). The PNBR is a national assessment activity which aims to benchmark the 2017 Philippines and Indonesia HEIs situation with regards to entrepreneurial ecosystems. 2018 INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS

a. International Conference for Sustainable Environment Technologies (ICSET)

The Office of International Linkages for Research and Development (ILRAD) initiated the organization of the International Conference for Sustainable Environment Technologies (ICSET). Through the conference, RDI outputs related to SGDs are shared and discussed among the conference participants from various countries. The ICSET 2013 was held on Sept. 30 – Oct. 1, 2013 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel with the theme: Education and Training for the Uptake of Sustainable Environmental Technologies – Enhancing Knowledge Base for Non – Toxic Environment and Poverty Alleviation. Priority thematic areas for the parallel technical sessions are (1) Water and Wastewater Treatment Process (WWTP), (2) Recycling, Reuse and Risk Reduction (R4), (3) Toxic and Hazardous Substances and Wastes Management (THSWM), (4) Air Pollution Control and Prevention (APCP), (5) Environmental and Health Risk Assessment (EHRA), (6) Separation and Low-Carbon (SLC), (7) Built Environment and Natural Disaster Detection (BENDD), (8) Industrial Design Technologies for Green Economy (IDTGE), (9) Alternative and Renewable Energy (ARE), (10) Urban and Coastal Engineering (UCE), (11) Nanotechnology and Material Science (NMS) and (12) Environmental Education and Training Technique (EETT).

The ICSET 2018 was held on Aug. 19 – 21, 2018 at Mapua University, Intramuros, Manila with the theme: “Innovation and Technopreneurship for Sustainable Environment and Development”. ICSET 2018 priority areas are (1) Natural Resources, Regeneration, Waste Utilization, (2) Catchment, River Quality & Management, (3) Environmental Modelling and Analytical Methods, (4) Water Treatment and Resources, (5) Information & Communication Technology for Environment, (6) Risks Assessment and Disaster Reduction, (7) Environmental Chemistry and Sciences, (8) Air Quality, Aerosol and Climate Change, (9) Building Industry and Sustainability, (10) Waste, Wastewater Technology, (11) Renewal Energy and Resources and (12) Resource Utilization and Environmental Challenges.


b. Collaboration with Tainan Hydraulics Laboratory, National Cheng Kung University and Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC)

Mapua University, through the Office of International Linkages for Research and Development (ILRAD), has forged collaboration with Tainan Hydraulics Laboratory - National Cheng Kung University (THL-NCKU) and Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC) in Taiwan. The agreements cover the following activities: joint or collaborative research projects, joint conferences, joint publications, professional advancement, scholarship program, and hosting of students.

c. Agreement with International Scientific Journal Publication

Mapua has an agreement with three (3) international scientific journal publications, Taiwan Water Conservancy (TWC), Sustainable Environment Research (SER) and Journal of Environmental Science and Management (JESAM). These publications are obliged, through the Memorandum of Agreements, to publish the scientific papers presented in ICSET. This way, the scientific papers containing critical information related to SDGs are publicized.
