MAPUA has long been an advocate of environment conservation and engineering for the environment as evident in its program offerings.





MAPUA strongly promotes environment and sustainable development (ESD) as evident in its curriculum.

  • The BS Environmental and Sanitary Engineering curriculum includes 17-unit courses related to protection and conservation of the environment.
  • Environmental engineering and environmental science courses are included in all engineering and non-engineering programs.
  • The 3BIRDS criteria is implemented in major design courses in BS Civil Engineering.
  • The BS Architecture program has a specialization track in Sustainable Design.
  • The MS Architecture program has a specialization track in Sustainable Architecture.
  • The BS Industrial Design program has a course on Sustainable Design.
  • Sustainable Design Principles are embedded in the Architectural Design courses, especially in Architectural Design 4 - Vernacular Architecture and Ecological Design.
  • The BS Interior Design program has an elective course on Sustainable Design Principles and Techniques.

MAPUA launched its I GO FOR VALUE initiatives for 2010 – 2020, where “R” stands for reduction of carbon footprint.


MAPUA established the Sustainable Development Research Office (SDRO) in 2011, renamed it to Resiliency and Sustainable Development Center (RSDC) in 2019.


MAPUA commits itself to protect the environment and achieve its set goals in pollution prevention, energy conservation, waste reduction, and resource-use optimization - a commitment declared in its Integrated Management System Policy.


Since 2010, MAPUA has consciously and earnestly paved a way to contribute to sustainable development, locally and globally, through instruction, research, and extension.


Mapua University, as a member of the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC), participates in numerous corporate social responsibility projects, one of which is the YGC Earth Care Program.
