Recycling is among the sustainability programs of Mapúa. Reduce, reuse, recycling and regeneration of new materials are the waste management initiative of the university. Utilization of the both sides of paper is among the practices by which the Mapúa personnel adopted. Centralization of the printer and copy machine is among the strategy for the reduction of paper consumption. Students, faculty members and personnel are enjoined to contribute into the recycling activities. The University provides racks to host packaging wastes segregated on-site. These packaging wastes are PET bottles, glass bottles and aluminum cans which are turned over to bigger material recovery and recycling facility.

As the University embedded the waste management practice into research and development activities, a research on plastic wastes regeneration was carried out. The waste is a flexible packaging laminate trimmings which were processed into a composite regenerated material analyzed and results showed that these materials are useful as building component and as a water and gas vapor barrier.
